Rubber Lagging

The shell of the conveyor belt is always busy and can get damaged due to several reasons. The damages caused by undue friction or by the liquid dispensing are a threat to the life and performance of the belt and the shell both. To keep it secure, a particular material is used that gets bonded with the shell. This specialized layer is known as the pulley lagging.

Types of pulley lagging

The pulley lagging comes in different types. This classification rests upon the kind of materials used. Each of these has certain unique features that distinguish it from the other classes around. The popular types of pulley lagging that are frequently used in different warehouses are as follows:

  1. Rubber Lagging is the most common type of lag. Made with a softer material, it is known for improving the traction. Resilience is equally commendable.

Rubber lagging is available in different types. The popular options to choose from the classes are the plain and the grooved rubber lagging. It is a versatile product that had other qualities that make it worth buying. They are popular because of the thickness and the hardness. The grooved lagging can be purchased in different shapes like the diamond shape. It is an affordable kind of pulley lagging.

While talking about the drawbacks, a fundamental challenge in using the rubber lagging is the limited life. It often requires constant replacement. Many users have complained about the belt slippage even when they are using the rubber lagging.

The plain rubber lagging will not work as good as the grooved typed. The plain surface has less traction. The uneven surface of the diamond grooved rubber lagging can support the conveyer much better. The rough surface develops the friction that is required.

  1. Ceramic Lagging is another popular form of pulley lagging. It is recommended for hardness and durability. This gives an excellent competition to other forms of lagging like the ones that include abrasive materials. It is a far better option than the rubber lagging that wears and tears very easily. The two popular kinds of ceramic lagging are the smooth and dimple ceramic lagging. Though it is expensive still can serve much better.

The dimple ceramic lagging is given the name due to the dimples it has on the surface. It is due to these dimples that the friction is increased many times as compared to the diamond grooved rubber lagging. The dimples press against the surface of the conveyor. As compared to this, the smooth ceramic lagging works as an excellent choice for the middle ground. It has the maximum benefits that are further used to minimize the issues related to the conveyor.
